Aaron Villasenor Next Moto Champion caught up with WERA, SCminiGP and Next Moto Champion Sponsored rider Aaron Villasenor after this weekends WERA race for a quick Q&A session. NMC: So far you’re off to a good start, tell us about your first two WERA races. “We’re still working on the bike, mostly the engine. I need a few more engine mods to keep up with the 125’s down the straight; my Dad’s working on that right now. In the first race I finished 1st in Clubman and 1st in Superbike D, but they were Novice classes and after that first race they moved me up to Expert. Now an expert, I’m going up against some talented riders like Michael Aquino, Bennie Taylor and Andre Ochs. In my second race at Vegas I got a 2nd and a 3rd. I had great starts but just didn’t have the power I needed in my MD250H to compete.” NMC: So you’re riding a MD250H Moriwaki this year, any other bikes? “I’m going to take another shot at the SCminiGP Pro GP Championship on my TZ150.” NMC: There’s a couple clubs out there, why SCminiGP? “I really like the family atmosphere, it’s all about Youth Road Racing plus it’s where the best Youth Road Racers in California come to race. When the competition’s harder, it makes you better. Last year was tough but great practice for me, this year I got a little something for them and I want to add a SCminiGP Pro GP and Pro Extreme championship to my SMRRC Championships and racing resume.” NMC: Who will you be mixing it up with? “Ben Truslow, Michael Gilbert and a guy who won the Formula 80 race in Vegas – Jason Aguilar. I know theses guys have been working during the off season but so have I.” NMC: Now that you’re racing on the big tracks why go back to the kart tracks? The big tracks seem easy compared to the kart tracks. The kart tracks have been the best practice and training tool for me, I’ve been on them for 5 years now. It’s so important, I think you really need a couple years on the tight tracks to learn how to throw the bike around and deal with super tight corners and racing. This is another reason I’m spending another year with SCminiGP, the kart tracks are great practice. The big tracks seem easy because they don’t wear you out as much and you have more time to think about what you need to do.” NMC: It sounds like you’re going to be racing a lot this year, who’s helping you out? “My Mom, Dad and Ken make it all happen. I also get help from some great sponsors like Zero Gravity, Lockhart Phillips, Waste management, Electric sunglasses, Mesa hose, Next Moto Champion, Tube tech, and Air tech. Thanks for all your help, I hope I can represent you well this year.” For more information on Aaron Villasenor and other youth road racers visit www.nextmotochampion.com |
